Latihan menyusun paragrap berbahasa Inggris: Time Sequence (1)

Salah satu cara membentuk sebuah paragraf dalam bahasa Inggris yaitu menampilkan ide-ide dan fakta-fakta secara kronologis/berturut-turut atau sesuai urutan waktu (time sequence) akan terjadinya suatu peristiwa atau kejadian. Kata-kata yang bisa kita gunakan yaitu: the first, the second, then, afterwards, after that dan lain-lain.

Perhatikan contoh beberapa paragraf di bawah ini yang dikembangkan sesuai dengan urutan waktu.

1.      Ahkam

Ahkam was born in a small town in southeast Sulawesi. He lived there until the age of seventeen. Then he moved to a larger city. He has been studying at a university for two years. He always spends a lot of time to study hard. He is going to graduate from the university two years later. He has a dream going abroad to continue his college. After finishing his study abroad and of course has enough skill, he will be back to his own country and dedicate to his former university as a lecturer. Afterwards, he will go to his hometown to make education there better.

     2.      An Ordinary Day

The day began like most other days. The sun rose at its usual time. The children went to school at the usual hour. Their father left for his office, and their mother stayed to take care of the home. It is noon now, the children will go home soon from school. And the father will return home by late afternoon. The family will eat dinner early. The entire family may read for a while. Then they may watch television. Their favorite program will begin at 8:00 and will end at 9:00. They will go to bed by 10:00 or 11:00. Like most other days in this large city, this ordinary day will end peacefully.

3.      A Short Journey

Last month I went to my hometown by car. It was a pleasant trip. I was traveling for my own enjoyment. I woke up early. The car came to pick me up at 5:00 am. The sun was shining brightly while I was sleeping. After a while, I woke up and dark clouds appeared in the sky. Then it was raining. We stopped at a stall to eat. Then we continued our trip. We arrived at a harbor at 12:30 am. I took a ship. By the time we arrived at land, the sun already set. For the last transportation, I took a car. I arrived at my hometown at 7:30 pm. I enjoyed my vacation there with my family. I spent my time with my family so happily. After I had been already one week,I returned to the city. Like usual I had to use two cars and a ship to arrive at the city. I arrived at the city on schedule. The day had pleasantly and eventfully. To weeks later. I am going there again.
